Women's Health

It’s true; women sometimes need a urologist too. It’s a common misconception that urology is a practice limited to men, but the truth is women make up more than 40% of our practice.

There are some urologic complaints both genders share- infections, stones, incontinence, blood in the urine and urinary frequency. However, the causes and treatments for these conditions vary greatly among sexes and individuals.

Incontinence is one of the most common reasons women seek care in our practice. Some battle stress incontinence- the inability to hold the bladder during common activities like coughing, laughing and lifting. Urge incontinence is characterized by a frequent urge to urinate. Too often, it’s a challenge hold it long enough to reach a bathroom. Finally, void incontinence is frequent urination because the bladder is unable to empty completely. While both men and women can experience incontinence, the causes in women are very different and are treated differently as well. We urge you to visit our Female Incontinence page to learn more about some of the unique, discreet and effective treatment options.

Regular or recurrent urinary tract infections, characterized by burning, pain, and trouble urinating is another issue we frequently treat, along with bladder infections, kidney stones, and the autoimmune disorder interstitial cystitis, when the lining of the bladder becomes inflamed. Although less prevalent, we also treat women with cancers of the bladder, kidney, and adrenals, and treat and surgically repair congenital and physical defects of the urinary system when necessary.

So why choose our practice? Our reputation is one of meticulous care. Careful screening with the latest technology, clear communication, accuracy, discretion, and convenience are our hallmarks. We take the time to understand you and your problem and make sure to find and treat the cause, not just the symptoms. Ours is not a practice that treats men all day but accommodates women when necessary. Nearly half of our patients are women, and most treatment and procedures are available in our private, convenient and state of the art office. We are a certified surgical center with highly-qualified, board-certified anesthesiologists on staff.

If your health care professional has suggested you see a urologist, or you suspect you have an issue that needs closer attention, schedule a consultation today.
